Can’t describe the relief I felt when this quote came up after I googled, “What do you do if your first draft is crap?”
Hemingway must seriously have a pipeline into my soul; it’s as though he’s intent on encouraging me from the grave. Maybe it’s because of the pilgrimage I made to his home/literary shrine in Havana. Or the fact that I’m vocal about my literary loyalties when I tell people that Jhumpa Lahiri ripped off all of Hemingway’s short stories and added curry and saffron rice to them in order to win a Pulitzer and IT’S LIKE NOBODY EVEN NOTICED.
